Your staff plays a critical role in your fitness center operations, as well as its overall brand experience. Encouraging a results-driven team starts with creating a positive atmosphere. As a leader, it is also important to provide clear goals and expectations and to recognize and reward team members for their efforts. Here are a few tips to encourage a results-driven team:

  • Find out what motivates your team and each individual. Not all employees are motivated in the same way. Spend time with your team as individuals as well as the group to understand what actually motivates them by openly asking them to share what motivates each of them best.
  • Establish clear goals, objectives, and a plan. If you do not have goals and objectives in place, it is hard to measure your actual results. Ensure that everyone on the team is clear on the goals and objectives set in place. Even better, include the team in setting those goals and allow them to get excited about the opportunity in front of them. Once goals have been established, create an action plan outlining the steps and objectives your team needs to take to reach those goals. Ensure that you are taking notes and documenting throughout the process so you can reflect on how to best achieve your desired outcomes.
  • Provide resources. Make sure that your team has the resources they need to do their job effectively. This could include access to training programs, support from management, or the latest technology.
  • Communicate. Keep communication lines open between management and the team. Encourage open dialogue and feedback to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Depending on how often you are evaluating results, continued communication and transparency are important in keeping the team motivated to move toward the end goal.
  • Celebrate the wins. Whenever your team or an individual achieves a goal, celebrate those successes. Tying back to the beginning of the process and knowing your team, celebrate those little wins uniquely to that team/individual to support their ongoing efforts. Celebrating wins may include a team outing, bringing in food, a special gift or recognition of the throughout the company in a newsletter or meeting announcement.

Employees want to know what is expected of them and if they are meeting those expectations. A strong results-oriented team is aligned with and attune to measurable results. Be a relentless leader to ensure that everyone is moving forward and in the right direction for a happier, healthier and more productive team dynamic.
