FireFlex Yoga NBC News Feature

NBC News featured FireFlex Yoga

FireFlex Yoga was developed in 2014 when Shannon McQuaide created a yoga program - specifically for firefighters - to complete her master's degree capstone project. The outstanding results inspired her to launch the program across the Bay Area. Now serving 19 fire departments, FireFlex delivers yoga classes to more than 1,000 first responders each year

In addition to yoga, Shannon also teaches Mindfulness Workshops to law enforcement and has more than 10 years experience leading professional development training programs.  She's published articles for the California State Firefighters’ Association, Fire Rescue Magazine, and the Scotts Valley Press Banner.

Shannon is a certified functional movement trainer, has completed Trauma Sensitive Yoga training, and she has a master's degree in leadership and psychology.  She has certified 22 yoga teachers in the FireFlex program.

"My father was a firefighter in the San Jose Fire Department for 34 years and loved his job. My uncle was also a firefighter. My sister became a firefighter, then she married a firefighter! It’s a big part of my family story. The fire station always felt like my home away from home. I chose a very different path with yoga and yet, it’s now come full circle: I created a yoga program for on-duty firefighters at the fire station.”
