Active’s Medical Integration Coordinator, Kathy Hutchinson, shares that her career trajectory was inspired by her elementary PE teacher who made fitness FUN. Obstacle courses, scooter hockey, giant parachutes, and square dancing were a few of the creative ways Kathy remembers enjoying fitness. If the kids were split into teams, the PE teacher divided the kids so that no one was chosen last. These positive experiences made a lasting impression on Kathy.

Today, Kathy is the first point of contact for patients referred by physicians for a 60-day fitness prescription at Synergy Health Club in Petaluma. She enjoys connecting with each new person and discovering ways to integrate fun into their journey toward better health. The Medical Fitness Program at Synergy Health utilizes the Physician Referred Exercise Program (P.R.E.P.) to collaborate with doctors who refer patients with heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson’s, and other health issues. Kathy, and a team of dedicated personal trainers, support each patient with a personalized road map to reach goals and increase their wellness.

Active Wellness operates two Synergy Health Clubs - one in Petaluma and one in Napa - and employs more than 200 medical-fitness staff who seamlessly integrate in their greater hospital system to increase preventative health efforts for patients and caregivers.
