Shannon's book, Yoga in the Fire Station, will share research on yoga and meditation, and how these practices benefit the ongoing work of today's first responders. Readers will discover her experience, and the lessons learned, when she first delivered FireFlex classes to San Jose Fire Department Station 9 back in March of 2014. In those early years, she asked hundreds of firefighters which types of yoga were beneficial to them and which yoga rituals were best left at the yoga studio.
In addition to exploring how yoga can train the brain for well-being, she also explores how performance is correlated to renewal and recovery. Yoga and meditation are the perfect practices to utilize at the fire house to build and sustain resiliency. The final chapter will include illustrations of yoga sequences to relieve back, neck, and shoulder pain, while supporting recovery.
